Wind 101: An Introduction to Wind Energy Siting and Development

This webinar was hosted by the National Wind Coordinating Collaborative (NWCC).

The NWCC hosted a webinar providing an introduction to wind energy for those working in a wind-wildlife or related field. Presenter Michael Speerschneider, Senior Director of Permitting Policy and Environmental Affairs for the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), provided background on wind project siting and development, including discussing opportunities and constraints for wind energy from the perspective of permitting, engineering, and economics, and discuss application of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Land Based Wind Energy Guidelines. The webinar included a Q&A session.

The National Wind Coordinating Collaborative (NWCC), formed in 1994 and retired in 2020, was initiated and funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL); AWWI facilitated the NWCC from 2012 until 2020. Learn more.
