Renewable Energy Wildlife Research Fund Webinar: Lesser-Prairie Chicken Response to Wind Energy

Thursday, August 17th at 2:00 PM ET

This webinar explored a study supported by the Renewable Energy Wildlife Research Fund (REWRF) highlighting recent work on grouse and wind energy. There are many unknowns about lesser prairie chicken’s (LEPC) interactions with wind facilities and there is a strong need for long-term data to help guide siting in vicinity of LEPC’s range. This webinar provided an opportunity to learn more about REWRF’s groundbreaking work in the renewable energy-wildlife space and what lessons can be learned from these efforts.

Presentation:

  • Lesser Prairie-Chicken Habitat Selection and Survival Relative to a Wind Energy Facility located in a Fragmented Landscape
      • Presentation Summary: A study investigating the potential effects of wind facilities on the lesser prairie-chicken over a 5-year period to provide data previously lacking to inform siting decisions within lesser prairie-chicken habitat.
      • Presenter: Chad LeBeau/WEST
